We are currently not offering new membership to GPs.
From April 2019: GPs all-over England have been covered for professional negligence by State Backed Indemnity for General Practice. Wales and Scotland have replicated this.
State Backed Indemnity cover GPs in all NHS primary care activity; while the GPs will still need to take out cover for representation in case of a GMC referral, performers’ list action or coroner’s inquests, GPs no longer have to source their own cover for professional negligence, from traditional defence organisations (MDOs) or private insurance. Since the State Backed Indemnity kicked in, DDPU has provided full remaining cover to GPs, without need to be member of MDOs. And all of this for a significantly lower price. In addition, in the GMC, we cover our members for all referrals, unlike the MDOs who do not cover matters of personal conduct.
