Professional Negligence Indemnity

It is a legal and regulatory requirement that medical and dental professionals are fully insured or indemnified in respect of any civil or compensation claims that arises from their professional work. This is called Professional Negligence indemnity.

The responsibility to ensure that you have adequate Professional Negligence indemnity rests solely with you. Our cover is strictly limited to providing professional defence. Our standard membership does not provide Professional Negligence indemnity for any work.

Professional Negligence indemnity for NHS work is usually provided by NHS's own indemnity scheme. Therefore, you would usually require own Professional Negligence indemnity only for work outside the NHS (private practice) or for work in the NHS that is done outside of the employment contract (Category 2 or Fee-Paying work). If you are unsure if you have adequate Professional Negligence indemnity for the work you do or are not sure whether you need professional negligence indemnity, please write to us and seek advice.

If you do require Professional Negligence indemnity for any work, we may be able to refer you to specialist insurance brokers from who you may separately purchase this cover.
